Abstract
The tolerability of antipsychotics is of major importance to the quality of life and the tendency to continue treatment. This study compares the impact of risperidone versus aripiprazole in a randomized trial on desired and undesired treatment effects. The study specifically focusses on negative symptoms that are often difficult to treat. We expect that treatment with aripiprazole will have a superior effect on negative symptoms and activation of the prefrontal cortex compared to risperidone. Inclusion of subjects appeared more challenging than expected but a substantial amount of data has currently been collected.
